A recent survey indicates over fifty percent of software developers are currently creating applications for Windows 7 and approximately eighty percent of developers will follow suit within the next twelve months. With the new interest from developers towards Windows 7, it is possible Microsoft may toss a wave and a thanks towards Apple in the higher interest.

Embarcadero Technologies, a software vendor who conducted the survey including over six hundred architects, developers, and analysts, states “Moved by the continuing popularity of Windows 7 functionality like Touch and Multi-Touch technology, more software creators are developing software solutions for Microsoft's new operating system.” Embarcadero Technologies also believes it is the iPhone and iPad success that generated greater interest in the built in touch-based features that are now available within Windows 7.

Embarcadero Technologies also said, “When questioned which Windows 7 features they are most excited about placing into their applications, nearly forty percent said Touch, Multi-Touch and gestures input, while twenty seven percent mentioned increased graphics, animations and Windows Imaging Component, and twenty four percent said ribbon controls. The increasing popularity of items including the iPhone and iPad have assisted in pushing consumer acceptance of touch-based advances. This popularity reaches into the developer community and will not change anytime soon.”

Approximately fifty four percent of the developers in the survey stated they are already creating applications to work seamlessly in Windows 7, with an additional twenty five percent who will chime in with the next twelve months. Only ten percent of those participants within the survey do not plan to create any Windows 7 application. Compared to Windows Vista this states a very positive and accepting nature towards Windows 7. It is noted Microsoft is selling approximately 7 copies of Windows 7 each second of the day. The sales success has also increased the customer satisfaction of Microsoft to a level it is not seen in years.
